Volunteer Opportunities

Museum volunteers contribute to maintaining our exhibits and collections and spend time assisting with children’s programs or the all-important clerical tasks that keep the Museum running. The support of our volunteers goes a long way in helping us tell the story of Welland.

EDUCATION COORDINATOR (Summer Student)

The Welland Museum is recruiting an energetic person seeking to gain first hand experience in developing and delivering educational programming. If you value teamwork, respect, honesty and commitment consider joining a team of dedicated professionals with passion for community and heritage.

Wage: $18.50/Hour
Positions Available: 2
Duration: Until August 23, 2024
Deadline: 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024
Anticipated Start Date: July 2, 2024
Hours: 37.5 hrs/week, Monday – Saturday, 9:00-5:00 pm.

Duties & Responsibilities
Children Summer Camp: -plan, organize, and develop camp curriculum within a specific budget -source materials required for camp, using budget restrictions -deliver a fun and supportive camp experience that helps enhance healthy child development through safe, stimulating, and positive activities -responsible for campers -greet parents before/after camp -interact with community partners.

Senior Programming: -develop interesting senior programs, including lectures and workshops, to be delivered on alternative weeks to camp -connect with community agencies to bring seniors to the Museum or bring workshops to the community -create a sound budget for workshops -facilitate workshops

Other: -welcome visitors to the Museum and assist with processing memberships, museum promotions, special events, and daily operations. -assist with the setup and installation, or exhibits including moving historical artifacts.

Job Requirements
-Excellent communication skills to a wide audience base are essential
-Enjoys working with children
-Previous experience as working with children, preferably in a camp environment
-Excellent time management skills
-Must be able to speak in both English, French preferred

Education & Experience:
-Candidate must have completed a secondary school.
-Candidate must be a student, returning to school in the fall of 2024
-Candidate must be between 16 – 30 years of age

Windows to our Community

The story of Welland is really the story of generations of Wellanders. Our city has become home to people and families from all around the world, from all walks of life – and it’s those stories the Welland Museum wants to share.

The Museum is asking citizens of Welland to share information on their family history and how they arrived in Welland! What brought them to the city? Was it industry, business or something else? By sharing these stories, you are helping us expand our knowledge of how our community grew! 

 If you are interested, please fill out the contact form below with your story. Francophone citizens can submit their family stories in whichever language they please.
