Join the Welland Historical Museum and the City of Welland for a special morning and evening of film as we continue our reflections on Truth and Reconciliation.

Following the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, we will present a selection of powerful films from the National Film Board of Canada that explore Indigenous history, resilience, family, leadership and the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.

Our program features Honour to Senator Murray Sinclair, reflecting on the legacy of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the importance of confronting difficult truths; Six Miles Deep, which highlights the strength and leadership of the clan mothers of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy during the 2006 Caledonia land dispute; and Birth of a Family, the moving story of four siblings separated by the Sixties Scoop as they come together to reconnect with their shared history and one another.

Screenings will take place at 10:30 a.m., following the flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, and again at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided at both screenings.

These films offer an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect, not only on the history that brought us here, but on the relationships, understanding and actions needed to move forward together on the path toward reconciliation.
