The museum will be closed from December 16, 2011 until May 14, 2012 for reorganization of the museum's storage areas to ensure that they meet museum standards.  During this time no donations will be accepted.

Educational programs and group tours will continue during the closure.  Teachers and group leaders are encouraged to book programs by calling the museum to set up an appointment.  Birthday parties can also be booked during the closure by contacting the museum.

The museum will re-open to the public on May 15, 2012 at which time the hours of operation will be 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday.

 THE CARNEGIE BUILDING

The original Carnegie Library was built in 1923.  Additions were added in 1961 and again in 1974.  It was one of the last Carnegie Libraries to be built in Canada.  The Welland Historical Museum moved into the building in the spring of 2006.  The building was recognized as being historically significant by the City of Welland, and on Saturday, October 14, 2006 was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.

  • Children 12 and under are free and must be accompanied by an adult
  • $10.00 - Family (up to 4 adults)
  • Museum Members – free admission with Membership card

Mission Statement

The mission of the Welland Historical Museum is to collect, preserve, research, exhibit and interpret objects and archival materials that serve to illustrate the historical founding, settlement and development of Welland, Pelham and area from prehistory to the present. The Museum will endeavour to grow with, and for the community, providing a source of knowledge and related programs on the heritage of Welland, Pelham, and area for present and future generations.
